Breast cancer research will not move forward until the fundamentals of the normal, non-lactating breast and breast biology are better understood. We need to know the answers to basic questions such as: What does the breast do when it is not producing milk? How many ductal openings are in the nipple? What is concentrated, secreted, or produced in the breast ducts, and what is absorbed? Without this information, our ability to prevent breast cancer will always remain out of reach.

To address this research gap, the Foundation established and hosts a biennial, multidisciplinary Think Tank. At this important event, 25 internationally renowned breast cancer researchers come together to review what is known and remains to be learned about the physiology of the normal breast, generate innovative research topics, itemize research goals, and set research priorities. The aims of the Think Tank are to:
The Normal Breast Think Tank is scheduled biennially. The next Think Tank will occur in the spring of 2008.
